The in spe civic association was founded in 2003. Its mainobjective is to develop a purely contemporary music theatre in the Czech Republic, to give support to new authors and their innovative work, to aid development of interdisciplinary and educational activities, and to promote international collaboration and contacts. In addition to realizing interdisciplinary artistic projects and staging works of music theatre, in spe is also involved in organizing seminars, lectures and workshops with the aim of creating opportunities for direct confrontation between the Czech music and theatre community and the latest development in this field worldwide.

in spe aims at innovative theatre staging by making use of nontraditional spaces. The performing space for each new project is carefully chosen so that it leads to a maximum interaction between the space and the musical work. A great deal of attention is given to the issue of theatrical and non-theatrical space; to the spacial qualities of music and word; to the singer and his/her voice as a versatile instrument with emphasis on the technique of movement and breathing. Special attention is given to the lighting design – an important element, still neglected in the Czech theatre.
